2023-2024 – Ted Gerber

I am originally from northwest Iowa in the little town of Lester which is part of the West Lyon school district. My dad and uncle started a plumbing and heating business in that town and both of my grandfathers were home builders, so the construction industry is in my roots. I grew up helping install residential plumbing and geothermal systems or serving on a framing crew with my uncles. I also ended up going on a lot of service calls on weekends with my dad figuring out why furnace and AC systems would go down. With that background and an appetite for math and science, I landed at Iowa State University for engineering and completed as a Construction Engineering graduate in 2010. I also met my wife Lindsay while attending ISU. She is an Iowa native as well as she grew up in Boone. We settled in the Des Moines area and welcomed 4 kids into our family, Eli, Micah, Julia, and Della. They keep us pretty busy, but I do find some free time for golf along the way as well.

I took an internship at Data Power Technology Group while in college and ended up starting full time right away after graduation from ISU. From the start of my career at DPT, ASHRAE was always recommended as a great way to meet colleagues in the industry and be active in our local market. For the first few years I was very much a consumer of ASHRAE events and benefits. After a few years I made my way onto the board and eventually through the BOG presidency. I was very excited to help continue the successful history of the Iowa ASHRAE chapter. All credit to the previous Presidents and Board of Governors who have built a very successful chapter long before I came along. As I became more involved with regional meetings in my time as president, it was very evident that strength of our chapter was uncommon. The volunteers and the people in our chapter are special and the results that have come from them in our chapter are remarkable. I am proud to have served and will continue to do so as long as I can.
