2021-2022 – Tyson Scheidecker

From Tyson Scheidecker, March 2025:

I was born in Rochester, Minnesota, and moved to Clarksville, Iowa, when I was seven years old. I graduated from Nashua-Plainfield High School in 2004. Growing up, I was always strong in math and science and had a curiosity about how things worked, which led me toward engineering. While I knew I wanted to pursue an engineering degree, I wasn’t sure which field until I got to college.

I attended Iowa State University, where I started in undeclared engineering. I quickly realized I wanted to avoid majors heavily focused on chemistry and preferred a degree with flexibility, which led me to choose Mechanical Engineering. As I progressed through my coursework, I found a strong interest in HVAC, which became my focus. I graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

My professional career started at Shive-Hattery as a mechanical engineer. I graduated at the height of the financial crisis, and despite sending out numerous applications, Shive-Hattery was the only company that interviewed me—thankfully, they offered me a job! In 2024, I transitioned to Microsoft, where I currently work.

I became involved in ASHRAE early in my career, initially joining as a general board of governors member. After several years of participation, I decided to take on more responsibility, joining the officer ranks and eventually serving as chapter president. I was inspired by the dedication of others on the board and wanted to contribute to maintaining the strong chapter we had built.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Krista, and our two kids, Sydney and Micah. In my free time, I love watching Iowa State sports, the NFL, and the NBA. I recently picked up smoking meats as a hobby and try to make it out to Colorado once a year to snowboard.
