Energy Conservation and Efficiency – Incorporating Energy Modeling into Your Design Process
Presenters: Jason Steinbock and Matt Swenka of The Weidt Group
Description: As energy codes continue to raise the bar, energy modeling is becoming a fundamental design service. This course provides attendees with an understanding of different types of energy modeling and how it can be used throughout the design process and into a building’s lifespan. Modeling inputs needed from various team members to create an energy model with the appropriate level of fidelity for the design phase will be reviewed. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an interactive energy modeling session and gain firsthand experience how early energy modeling can impact decision making*. The course will conclude with an update of various available energy efficiency rebate programs.
Learning objectives:
1) Distinguish between the different types of energy models and the factors they take into account
2) Recognize the value energy modeling can provide to the design process
3) Interpret the environmental and financial benefits provided by energy modeling results
4) Assist clients in obtaining energy efficiency rebates to buy down the cost of implementation
*The interactive energy modeling session activity entails the use of an online energy modeling tool that has been developed by The Weidt Group.
